Grant Farmer Post 992 batted a thousand.

The groups hosted pitcher Blake Treinen of Walla Walla on Nov. 10 at a T-Post benefit.

Treinen and Los Angeles Dodgers teammates upended the New York Yankees on Oct. 30

to win the 2024 World Series.

Treinen’s autograph was such a hot commodity that many people waiting in line did not

make it into the event.

However, the initial fundraiser was a booming success with proceeds split down the

middle.

“Signed hats and baseballs plus photos brought in about $4,000, said VLSV President

Carolyne Meagher.

old in two lots, two World Series hats and balls brought in $2,000 each — another

$4,000.

About $3,700 was raised in silent auction items. Donations at the door brought in more

than $700.

Before expenses, VLSV and VFW will split a bit under $20,000. “Not bad at all,” Meagher

said.

Proceeds help VLSV with its projects that in 2023 served 1,416 area veterans. Volunteers

put in 3,697 hours that year. This funding is also helping the VFW work toward

reopening its post.

VLSV meets at the Walla Walla Senior Citizens Center, 720 Sprague Ave.

Their schedule of events for December at the senior center includes assisting with the

Christmas bazaar on Dec. 7; preparing care packages on Dec. 10 for a deployed unit of 30

that will be mailed that day; filling Christmas bags for 140 veterans on Dec. 13;

participating in the Wreaths Across America ceremony Dec. 14 in Mountain View

Cemetery; cosponsoring a Christmas dinner for all veterans with Combat Vets Chapter

10 on Dec. 14; hosting Santa at the center for a party on Dec. 19 and again on Dec. 20 at

the Veterans Home.

VLSV’s next meeting will be 10 a.m. Dec. 10 at the Senior Center.
